Frequently asked questions

Questions about Cowmed

What is Cowmed?
Cowmed is a Brazilian dairy technology company founded in 2010 and based in Santa Maria, Rio Grande do Sul. Smart collars monitor each cow 24 hours a day, and VIC, Cowmed's artificial intelligence, turns that behavior into heat (estrus), health, nutrition and thermal stress alerts. More than 1,400 farms are connected and 1 million cows are monitored. Its solutions are Animal Monitoring, Cow Comfort, which measures heat in the barn, and Cow Connect, herd management software without collars for farms with up to 40 cows. The legal name is Chip Inside Tecnologia S.A.
How does Cowmed cow monitoring work?
Each cow wears a collar that records her behavior continuously, and C-Com antennas send the data to the platform. VIC analyzes it and shows, in the app and on the computer, which animals need attention that day, with the reason and the priority. The farmer gets heat alerts with the best time to inseminate and health warnings before clinical signs appear.
What is VIC?
VIC (Virtual Interpreter of Cows) is Cowmed's artificial intelligence, launched in 2020 as the first AI built for dairy farming. It reads collar data 24 hours a day and gives the farmer the priority tasks, the animals that need attention and action recommendations by group.
How much does Cowmed monitoring cost?
Animal Monitoring can be contracted under a loan-for-use model (comodato), which lowers the upfront investment, and a consultant builds the quote based on herd size and farm structure. In Brazil, farms with up to 40 lactating cows can use the Cow Connect management software at a fixed price: R$ 1,966.57 upfront via Pix or 12 card installments of R$ 182.09, on an annual plan.
How many cows does a farm need to use Cowmed?
Collar monitoring is designed for herds above 40 lactating cows, where the team can no longer follow each animal closely. Smaller farms can use Cow Connect to organize insemination, calving, production and health on a phone or computer, with no collar. Both solutions can be used together.
Where does Cowmed operate?
Cowmed serves dairy farms in Brazil and Latin America and works with cooperatives and dairy companies such as Lactalis, Frísia, CCPR and Santa Clara. Since 2023 the technology has also reached Mexico through a partnership with MexiCow.
Does Cowmed work if the farm internet is unstable?
Real-time monitoring needs a stable internet connection where the animals are. During short outages, the C-Com antennas keep the data in internal memory until the connection returns, and Cow Comfort sensors hold up to 4 hours without communication. Cowmed's technical team reviews the connection feasibility with the farmer.
Does Cowmed integrate with other farm systems?
Yes. The platform has integrations available with Ideagri, DeLaval DelPro, GEA, ABS Monitor and ABCBRH.
How does support work after signing up?
Every client farm has its own technical consultant, who follows the data daily and helps prioritize decisions. Onboarding includes team training, and technical support continues for as long as the farm uses the system.
